Can I use my own modem with Ziply Fiber?
Yes. Ziply Fiber permits customer-owned equipment that meets its published requirements. In their words: "While we optimize our routers for our network to bring you the best internet performance, you're free to use your own router. You'll just want to be sure it's suited to support the speed of your fiber internet plan. Different speed tiers have different technical requirements." (ziplyfiber.com/services/routers).
Do Ziply Fiber's requirements change with my speed tier?
"Minimum requirement for fiber internet: Be sure the router's WAN port supports one gigabit Ethernet (1 Gbps) or higher depending on your internet plan." / "The higher your Ziply Fiber speed, the higher your WAN port should be. Can I use my own router with Ziply Fiber?
Yes — a customer-owned router is permitted and is the ONLY device a customer would buy. Ziply supplies the ONT; the customer's device is a ROUTER, not a modem. Router must be "ONT compatible". Ziply's own WiFi 7 router is included free on plans up to 5 Gig, so buying is optional below 5 Gig; on the 50 Gig plan the customer MUST supply the router.
What does Ziply Fiber not allow?
No device is explicitly banned. The page distinguishes fiber from cable/DSL: "Fiber internet connects to your home via an ONT (Optical Network Terminal), where cable and DSL use modems. When considering routers for use with fiber internet, be sure to choose a model that's ONT compatible." — i.e. a DOCSIS cable modem has no role here. Firmware: "For equipment not provided by Ziply Fiber, be sure it's running the latest firmware... contact the manufacturer directly for support."
